Delivery status
WhatsApp status ticks indicate whether the message was sent, delivered, and read. Only available on WhatsApp — Telegram and Instagram don't have this system.
Reference
- ✓ (one gray tick)
- Message sent to WhatsApp's server. Not yet delivered to the recipient's device.
- ✓✓ (two gray ticks)
- Message delivered to the recipient's device. Not yet read.
- ✓✓ (two blue ticks)
- Message read by the recipient.
- No ticks
- The message couldn't be sent. The number may not be on WhatsApp, or the 24-hour window has expired.
- 24-hour window
- WhatsApp only allows sending messages to a contact if they messaged you in the last 24 hours, or using approved templates.
- WhatsApp only
- Telegram and Instagram don't provide delivery/read confirmation through the API.
Common errors
- Ticks not updating
- Read receipts require the recipient to have read confirmations enabled in WhatsApp. If they disabled it, you'll only see two gray ticks.
- Message with no ticks
- The destination number may not be registered on WhatsApp, or the message failed on Meta's server.
